your photographer

Hello!

I’m Kylie, your photographer! Photography By Kylie is located in the beautiful Elk Neck area of Elkton, Maryland! My joys are our lovely flowery homestead, our farm animals, golden hour, my grandparents’ 100 acre wood, pumpkin spice coffee, my husband of twelve years, and our three beautiful children. For fun I love to take naps, take long showers while crying to Taylor Swift’s deepest lyrics, and gift our wildflower bouquets to neighbors and friends.

your session

Although I have been a professional photographer longer than I’ve had children, my first-hand heartbreak of experiencing how quickly their fleeting moments passed inspired me to create a better, more thorough, easy-to-plan experience for YOU.

The biggest stressor for the person planning their family photoshoot is always, always, ALWAYS the wardrobe assembly. Typically it’s you on your own, doom-scrolling aimlessly through the overwhelming choices in online clothing, multiple distressing trips to multiple overstimulating stores, guessing what colors will go together, guessing what patterns will go together, dressing multiple family members during the last minute, dressing for the season, wondering if you broke any “dos and don'ts” of wardrobe building, keeping yourself within your style-preferences, and honoring any sensory/clothing-texture aversions or preferences of your other family members. This is NOT the stress that I want for my clients. EVER. Especially the mothers, who are already doing so much to make this session happen.

But here’s the cold hard truth, of not only your session, but in Art and Photography as a whole. The quality, the cohesive look, and the sparkle of a timeless portrait; a successful piece of art representing your family, is dependent on my power move. And my power move is….

C O L O R T H E O R Y. What is color theory? Color theory is a body of knowledge that encompasses both the scientific principles of how colors interact and are created, as well as the practical applications of using colors to achieve desired effects in visual art and design. It involves understanding the color wheel, color harmony, and how colors are used in context to create visual impact.

Why is this my power move? Well. Many photographers have such a hands-off approach to the session, not realizing they could ensuring a more cohesive, timeless look; while taking the stress away from their clients. Your session is multi-faceted! Each detail depends on, even balances, on the others. I will make suggestions on every detail of your session based on: the season we are shooting in, the session start-time based on golden hour time that day, the location of your session, how far into the woods or open in a field we are, etc. These details ALL matter; not only in relativity to one another, but in relativity to the colors of your wardrobe. Your wardrobe colors could be suggested and built, soley on a location you’ve been dying to use. OR, if you’re already set up with a wardrobe, using its’ colors and vibe, I can suggest a specific location. While I am always open to new shoot locations, I do have specific areas I like to stick to. This is typically because I have played with the different angles, sceneries, golden hours times, and seasons of EACH location.

So here I am, hoping you will allow me to be your problem solver and stress remover in this planning process! I hope to take any of the guess work out of your experience with me and find joy in creating the family photo session of your dreams!

I can’t wait to get to know you soon! xoxo
